This collection of poetry is a small reflection of the ups and downs that I have encountered within the past few years, more so of my thoughts on life during the struggles that came about in these challenging times. I never had thought much about writing poetry. When I decided to be an English major, I was looking for something different. I wanted to see different perspectives in writing and learn new ways to express the thoughts in my head hence, I signed up for this poetry workshop. Throughout this semester I have faced a rollercoaster of emotions because of unexpected events. I found it difficult to focus and that is how these poems came to light. While writing these poems I was able to face some the hardest parts of this year while also being able to identify some positives. This collection is filled with the feelings of gratitude I felt for being able to connect with friends and family, the feelings of excitement and happiness I have been able to find, and the frustrations that I have had to endure within my time at Umass. Throughout this workshop I have come to not only enjoy the reading of poetry but writing it as well.
